Diabetes and its primary symptoms: How does diabetes affect you?

We human beings are prone to various diseases. Many diseases are genetic and come with birth, but many are due to our wrongful chosen lifestyle, bad habits of eating - sleeping, etc., etc.

Diabetes is one such disease that falls under both the categories. Many a time it comes as hereditary but sometimes it occurs due to our knowingly or unknowingly chosen silly- silly mistakes.

Diabetes is also known as blood sugar. The basic cause of this disease is that, when our blood glucose level reaches high or very high, then it leads to a condition that is called blood sugar. This blood sugar condition is also known as diabetes.

In other words, Diabetes is a chronic, metabolic disease characterized by elevated levels of blood glucose or blood sugar. Many times this condition leads to some kind of serious damage to our heart, blood vessels, eyes, kidneys, and even our nervous system.

What is the basic cause of Diabetes?

It is a very surprising phenomenon, that even in this age of scientific and technological advancement the exact cause of diabetes is still not very clear to the scientific or medical fraternity. In all types of blood sugar or diabetes sugar level builds up in the bloodstream. This is because the pancreas doesn't produce enough insulin in our body. However, it is concluded by the researchers that both type 1 and type 2 diabetes occur due to certain genetic and environmental factors. Most of the time a combination of both is responsible for diabetes other than overstress, polluted surroundings, excess eating, and a haphazard lifestyle.

How to detect or check Diabetes?

Nowadays, checking or ruling out blood sugar or diabetes is not a very tough or complicated task. Almost every small town or city has good diagnostic centers or pathology laboratories, where the detection of blood sugar after giving blood samples is a very easy job. There are two tests for blood sugar detection. One is an empty stomach blood test in which without taking any meal or eating, a sample of blood needs to be given for blood sugar detection. Another method is post-meal blood sugar detection. Both have their protocols and ranges and according to their results, the physician decides the course of treatment.

What is normal blood sugar level?

As we have already given an idea there are two timings for getting blood sugar detection. The range also varies according to the pre or post-meal blood sample detection.

For the pre-meal or fasting condition, it should be between 70 mg/ dL (3.9 mmol/ L) and 100 mg / dL (5.6 mmol/L).

When fasting blood glucose level goes between 100 to 125 mg/dL (5.6 to 6.9 mmol/ L), then certain changes in our lifestyle alongside monitoring of glycemia are recommended by the physician.

As far as post-meal blood sugar level is concerned, it should be 140 to 180 mg/dL. Sometimes blood sugar levels may rise higher as it depends upon many other factors too.
